If you're planning a wedding, birthday, corporate event, gala, university event or other celebration in Toronto, you've probably wondered: how much does a photo booth rental actually cost?
For 2026 and 2027 events in Toronto and the GTA, photo booth rentals can range from around $300 for a basic or digital setup to $1,500+ for premium and specialty experiences.
For a traditional staffed photo booth with instant prints, many Toronto packages fall somewhere around $400–$700+, depending on the number of hours, equipment, printing, customization and what's included.
You'll also find photo booths advertised for around $300–$350 on Facebook Marketplace and in local groups.
So why can one photo booth cost $350 while another costs $600, $900 or more?
They're not necessarily the same product.
Here's what you're actually paying for, what to compare between quotes, and what to check before booking a photo booth for your event.
Average Photo Booth Rental Prices in Toronto
As a general budgeting guide for 2026/2027 Toronto and GTA events:
| Type of Photo Booth | Typical Price Range |
|---|---|
| Digital-only / iPad-style booth | ~$300–$500+ |
| 2-hour booth with instant prints | ~$400–$700+ |
| 3–4 hour staffed print booth | ~$500–$1,000+ |
| Glam, mirror or premium experiences | ~$800–$1,500+ |
| Large custom or corporate activations | $1,500+ |
These are general budgeting ranges, not fixed industry rates. Pricing varies considerably between vendors.
You may also find newer or independent vendors offering packages below these ranges, particularly through Facebook Marketplace or local wedding groups.
A lower price doesn't automatically mean a bad photo booth, just as a higher price doesn't automatically mean a better one.
The important part is understanding what's actually included.
Why Can One Photo Booth Cost $350 and Another Cost $700?
Two companies can both advertise:
"2-hour photo booth with unlimited prints"
and be offering two very different setups.
The difference may be the camera, lighting, printer, print policy, staffing, backdrop, customization or simply the level of business infrastructure behind the booking.
Before comparing prices, compare the actual service.
1. iPad Photo Booth vs. DSLR Photo Booth
One of the biggest differences is the camera taking your photos.
iPad Photo Booth
Many digital and lower-cost booths use the built-in camera of an iPad or another tablet.
These booths can be great for:
- Digital photos
- GIFs and boomerangs
- QR code or text sharing
- Casual parties
- Smaller events
- Events where physical prints aren't important
They're also compact and can require less equipment, which can help keep the rental price lower.
DSLR Photo Booth
Other photo booths use a dedicated DSLR or mirrorless camera combined with external lighting.
A dedicated camera gives the operator more control over the actual photograph, while proper lighting can make a particularly noticeable difference inside darker banquet halls and evening wedding receptions.
If image quality matters to you, don't just ask whether a company provides "high-quality photos."
Ask:
What camera does your booth use?
And just as importantly:
What lighting does it use?
At 88 Photobooth, our booth uses a DSLR camera paired with dedicated studio lighting, rather than relying on an iPad camera.
2. Lighting Matters More Than You Might Think
The camera is only part of the equation.
Wedding venues and banquet halls are often intentionally dim. That creates a beautiful atmosphere for dinner and dancing, but it's not necessarily ideal for taking photos.
That's why lighting matters.
Some booths rely on the light built into the booth or a basic LED/ring light. Other setups use dedicated photography lighting or studio strobes.
When you're looking through a photo booth company's portfolio, pay attention to:
- Skin tones
- Faces in dark venues
- Sharpness
- Shadows
- Whether guests are evenly lit
- Whether photos look consistent from event to event
If the actual photos are important to you, look at full event examples rather than judging a booth only by how pretty the physical setup looks.
3. The Printer Matters Too
If you're booking a photo booth with physical prints, ask what kind of printer is being used.
Professional photo booth companies commonly use dye-sublimation photo printers, which are designed for repeated, high-volume photo printing.
Unlike a typical home inkjet printer, dye-sublimation printers use heat to transfer dye onto the print.
They're popular for event photography because they can produce consistent prints quickly, which becomes particularly important when guests are lining up at a busy wedding reception.
At 88 Photobooth, we use a DNP professional dye-sublimation photo printer for our print packages.
Our printer can produce a standard 4×6 photo in roughly seconds rather than minutes, helping keep the booth moving during busy periods.
This is something most guests will never think to ask about, but it can make a difference when you're trying to get a lot of people through a photo booth in two or three hours.
4. What Does "Unlimited Prints" Actually Mean?
This is another phrase worth checking carefully.
"Unlimited prints" can mean different things depending on the vendor.
For example, one booth might allow unlimited photo sessions but provide only one physical print per session.
Another may provide multiple copies so several guests appearing in the photo can each take one home.
Before booking, ask:
- Are photo sessions unlimited?
- Are physical prints unlimited?
- Can multiple guests in one photo receive copies?
- Are prints produced immediately?
- Is there a limit based on guest count?
- Are both physical and digital copies included?
Don't assume every package advertising "unlimited prints" works the same way.
5. 2×6 Photo Strips vs. 4×6 Prints
Another factor affecting the price is print size.
2×6 Photo Strips
The classic photo booth format.
They're compact, nostalgic and especially popular for weddings, birthdays and social events.
A typical session can include several photos arranged vertically with the couple's names, event date, logo or custom artwork incorporated into the design.
4×6 Prints
A 4×6 print gives you considerably more space for photos and design.
They're great if you want larger photos, more elaborate layouts or something closer to a traditional photograph guests can display afterward.
Because 4×6 prints use more media, packages offering them may cost more.
At 88 Photobooth, our current packages include both options:
Classic: unlimited 2×6 prints
Signature: unlimited 4×6 prints
6. How Many Hours Do You Actually Need?
Most photo booth packages start at around two hours.
For a birthday, shower, university event or smaller gathering, two hours may be enough.
For weddings, especially larger receptions, three hours can make more sense.
Think about when guests will realistically use the booth.
For example, you may not need it running while everyone is eating dinner. Opening the booth after dinner and keeping it available during the social and dancing portion of the evening can make better use of your booked time.
Also compare each company's additional-hour rate.
A vendor with a lower two-hour starting price isn't necessarily cheaper if you eventually need three or four hours.
7. Attendant vs. Drop-Off Booth
Another difference between packages is whether someone actually stays with the booth.
A drop-off booth is generally delivered before the event and collected afterward.
A staffed booth has an attendant present to:
- Help guests
- Monitor the equipment
- Refill print media
- Troubleshoot problems
- Keep the booth organized
- Help manage the guest line
Neither model is inherently wrong.
For a simple digital booth, a drop-off setup may be exactly what you need.
For a print-heavy wedding or large event, having an attendant can be particularly useful.
At 88 Photobooth, an on-site attendant is included with every package.
8. Custom Photo Strip and Print Designs
For weddings and branded events, the print design can be a big part of the final result.
Customization might include:
- Couple's names
- Wedding date
- Wedding colours
- Floral or decorative elements
- Event logo
- Corporate branding
- School or organization branding
- Custom graphics
- 2×6 or 4×6 layouts
Some companies include this in the package, while others offer it as an upgrade.
At 88 Photobooth, our print packages include a personalized print design with up to two revisions.
9. Backdrops, Props and Add-Ons
Check whether the backdrop shown in a company's photos is actually included in the advertised package.
Some companies include a standard backdrop and charge extra for premium options such as:
- Draping
- Shimmer walls
- Flower walls
- Custom branded walls
- Premium fabric backdrops
Other common upgrades include:
- Black-and-white glam photography
- Guestbooks
- Audio guestbooks
- Premium props
- Custom signage
- Additional print formats
- Additional hours
When comparing quotes, separate the core photo booth package from optional decor and upgrades.
10. Travel, Parking and Venue Fees
Location can also affect your final price.
A Toronto-based photo booth company may include events within Toronto but charge a travel fee for Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Markham, Richmond Hill, Aurora or other parts of the GTA.
Downtown venues may also have loading or parking considerations.
Ask about travel before comparing final quotes so you don't discover an additional fee after deciding on a vendor.
At 88 Photobooth, Toronto events are included in our standard pricing, while travel fees may apply outside Toronto. Any applicable travel fee is quoted before booking.
What About $300–$350 Photo Booths on Facebook Marketplace?
If you've been shopping around, you've probably seen them.
Facebook Marketplace and local wedding groups can have photo booth packages advertised for $300–$350 or sometimes even less.
Some can be genuinely great deals.
New businesses often offer introductory pricing while building their portfolio and reviews. Smaller operators may also have lower overhead.
So a $350 price should not automatically scare you away.
But it should prompt you to compare more than the number.
Ask:
Is it an iPad or DSLR booth?
What lighting is being used?
If prints are included, what printer is being used?
Exactly what does "unlimited prints" mean?
Is an attendant included?
Is setup and teardown included?
Is there a custom print design?
Are there reviews from previous clients?
And there's another question that's especially important for weddings:
What actually guarantees your date?
Reliability Is Part of What You're Booking
Price and photo quality are easy to compare.
Reliability is harder.
In local wedding and event groups, you'll occasionally come across people sharing experiences with vendors cancelling close to their event, becoming difficult to reach or not delivering what they expected.
That can happen with a vendor at any price point, so paying more doesn't automatically protect you.
Instead, look at how the business handles the booking.
For an important event, we'd recommend looking for a few things.
A Signed Booking Agreement
Your booking shouldn't exist only inside Instagram or Facebook messages.
The agreement should clearly identify things such as:
- Your event date
- Venue
- Service hours
- Package
- Price
- Payment schedule
- Cancellation terms
- Date-change terms
If you're booking a wedding a year in advance, knowing exactly what you've reserved matters.
Clear Payment Terms
You should know:
- How much reserves your date
- Whether that amount is refundable
- When the remaining balance is due
- What happens if you cancel
- What happens if the vendor cannot provide the service
Read this before sending money.
Independent Reviews
Instagram portfolios are useful for judging a company's work.
Reviews tell you something different.
Google reviews and other independent reviews can help you understand whether previous clients actually received the service being advertised and what their experience was like.
Business Insurance
This is one people often don't think about until their venue asks.
Hotels, universities, corporate venues and some wedding venues may require outside vendors to carry commercial liability insurance or provide proof of coverage.
Ask your vendor whether they're insured, especially if you're booking a larger venue.
A Real Business Presence
A website, business email, Google Business Profile, consistent contact information and written policies don't guarantee that nothing will ever go wrong.
But they give you more information to verify before handing over a deposit.
What Does 88 Photobooth Do to Protect Your Booking?
At 88 Photobooth, we don't consider an Instagram or Facebook conversation alone to be a confirmed booking.
Our bookings are documented through a signed booking agreement and retainer.
The agreement includes your event details, service time, selected package, payment terms, cancellation terms and date-change policy so both sides know what's been reserved.
We are also a registered Ontario business and carry $2 million in commercial general liability insurance.
If your venue requires proof of insurance, we can provide a Certificate of Insurance when required.
It's not the glamorous part of booking a photo booth.
But if you're trusting a vendor with your wedding or another event that only happens once, we think the business behind the booth matters too.
So Is a Cheap Photo Booth a Bad Idea?
No.
A $300–$350 photo booth can be a great deal.
Maybe it's a newer company offering launch pricing. Maybe it's an iPad booth and that's exactly what you want. Maybe the owner has lower overhead. Maybe you simply found a good vendor at a good price.
Similarly, a $900 photo booth isn't automatically better because it costs $900.
Instead of judging a vendor by price alone, compare:
| What to Compare | Questions to Ask |
|---|---|
| Camera | iPad, DSLR or mirrorless? |
| Lighting | Built-in/ring light or dedicated studio lighting? |
| Printer | What printer and printing technology? |
| Prints | What does "unlimited" actually include? |
| Print size | 2×6, 4×6 or both? |
| Attendant | Included or self-service? |
| Backdrop | Included? Which options? |
| Design | Custom template included? |
| Digital photos | Included? How are they delivered? |
| Setup | Included in the price? |
| Travel | Any additional fee? |
| Agreement | Is there a written contract? |
| Cancellation | What happens if either side cancels? |
| Insurance | Does the business carry liability insurance? |
| Reviews | Are there independent customer reviews? |
That's a much more useful comparison than simply sorting quotes from cheapest to most expensive.

How Much Should You Budget for a Toronto Photo Booth in 2026/2027?
As a simple starting point:
Around $300–$500:
Digital booths, shorter rentals, newer vendors and some budget-friendly print packages.
Around $400–$700+:
Many traditional staffed photo booths with instant printing.
Around $700–$1,500+:
Longer rentals, premium setups, specialty booths and more elaborate experiences.
$1,500+:
Large-scale custom experiences and corporate activations can easily move beyond this range.
But don't choose based on the range alone.
A $399 DSLR photo booth with studio lighting, professional dye-sublimation printing, unlimited prints, an attendant, custom design and a signed agreement may represent a very different service from another booth advertised at the same price.
Likewise, you may not need any of those things.
If all you want is a fun iPad booth where guests can take photos and send them to their phones, there's no reason to pay for equipment and services you don't value.
The Bottom Line
So, how much does a photo booth cost in Toronto?
For a 2026 or 2027 event, expect to see everything from approximately $300 budget and digital options to $1,500+ premium experiences, with many staffed print booths falling somewhere in the middle.
But price is only the first question.
Before booking, find out:
**What camera are they using?
What lighting?
What printer?
What does unlimited printing mean?
Is an attendant included?
Is there a signed agreement?
What happens if they cancel?
Are they insured?**
Once you know those answers, comparing two photo booth quotes becomes much easier.
